LUNCH CLUB

Well into its 2nd year and meeting monthly on the second Tuesday of the month the Lunch Club for the elderly, some of whom are bussed to and from the Centre by minibus, has proved very popular and is well attended by those who able to leave the comfort of their homes

Mass is taken after coffee at 10.30am and lunch is served at 12.30pm, an ideal way for the elderly to socialise and keep abreast with news of one another

Thanks to volunteers from the congregation this has proved to be an excellent project.  One of the congregation, Barbara Bevan, has taken responsibility for the oversight of the project, compiled the menus and done the shopping , while others have helped as servers and washers up.

There is little doubt that this venture is a great help to many of our elderly congregation who have supported the church well over many years.

On Tuesday 11th December, 2007, 24 elderly people, some in wheelchairs, were brought to the Centre on a wet, miserable day, and, after celebrating Mass led by Fr McTeer, enjoyed a first class Christmas lunch prepared by Valerie Bryden and her cohort of helpers. Unfortunately we were not able to take any photographs this year so we have retained those which were taken in 2006 to give an indication of the party atmosphere
